Long distance hiking, backpacking and mountaineering adventures

2008
The Continental Divide Trail (CDT) runs from the Canadian border to the Mexican border along the Rocky Mountains.

Imagine - hiking 20 miles a day, 6 days a week for the next 5 months carrying all your kit and food supplies, in a backpack weighing 35lb to 50 lbs.

If that's ok, remember this will be in tough mountainous terrain. Fancy it?

How did Andy do this?
Good preparation and hard training were key.

This is what Andy accomplished in his 2008 adventure.

To get the picture - in Montana's 800 miles there are approximately 160 000 feet of ascent.

For us in the UK, that’s hiking from Lands End to John'O'Groats, whilst going up and down 6 Mount Everests on the way.

On top of the constant endurance demands, you will have high snowy passes, ice cold fast river crossings, wild animals, scarce or dirty water sources, high altitude, extreme temperatures and solitude.

Snow, rain, lightning, hail and strong winds. Sometimes on the same day. This is the CDT.....the real deal.
